Onion Pakoda Recipe | Onion Pakora
Onion Pakoda is a fried snack or deep-fried onion fritters prepared with gram flour coating along with some spices. It is a popular tea time snack across the Indian subcontinent, where it is served in restaurants and sold by street vendors. It is also often found in Indian Restaurants as wells South Asian Restaurants in the Western world.

INGREDIENTS
- Onions - 2 nos, thinly sliced.
- Green Chilly - 2 nos, finely chopped.
- Ginger - 1 tsp, crushed.
- Few Curry Leaves
- Gram Flour/ Besan - 1/4 cup
- Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
- Chilly Powder - 1 tsp
- Fennel Seeds - 1 tsp
- Asafoetida - a pinch
- Salt - as per taste
- Oil for frying
- In a large mixing bowl take sliced onions.
- Add salt and mix well in order to release moisture from the onions.
- Then add ginger, green chilly and curry leaves.
- Also add Gram flour/ besan, turmeric powder, chilly powder, fennel seeds and a pinch of asafoetida.
- Combine till the dough is formed. If onions do not release water, then sprinkle few drops of water.
- Take a ball sized pakoda dough and drop in hot oil. do not overcrowd the oil as it won't get crispy.
- Fry on medium flame till the pakoda turns crispy and golden brown.
- Finally, drain over kitchen paper and serve onion pakoda with tomato sauce.
BONUS TIP
- Squeeze onions well so that it will produce moisture. If it didn't produce moisture then sprinkle a few drops of water and squeeze well.
