Passion Fruit Juice @ Home



Passion Fruit, commonly known as Granadilla or Krishna Phal, in India is a vine species native to Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina. It is a type of berry which is sweet-sour, highly aromatic and seedy. It has varieties from purple to yellow and golden one and also hybrids. Being a tropical plant, it needs well-drained soil with a high amount of humus and neutral pH to grow.
This juicy fruit has some great health benefits. Some of them are:
  • Good for diabetics: It has a low glycemic index (GI) and high fibre content. So that this fruit can maintain insulin levels for diabetics. Due to high fibre content like pectin, it can make you feel full without increasing the calorie intake.
  • Younger looking skin: Passion fruit has many types of antioxidants like vitamin A, vitamin C, riboflavin and carotene. These antioxidants reduce the production of free radicals(These are produced by our body cells as a byproduct and can cause skin ageing) in our body. Also, the anti-inflammatory properties of passion fruit tend to soothe our skin.
  • Enhances immunity: Passion fruits are highly rich in vitamin C, beta-cryptoxanthin and alpha-carotene that boosts our immunity. It also has iron which increases haemoglobin in our red blood cells.
  • Keeps your heart healthy: The rich content of riboflavin(vitamin B6) and niacin(vitamin B3) in passion fruit helps in regulating the thyroid activity in our body. It also prevents hardening of the arterial walls of the heart(atherosclerosis)/, keeping your heart functions running smoothly. The phenolic compounds and alkaloids can also help in relieving anxiety and treating insomnia to a certain level.
  • Prevents osteoporosis: Passion fruit is rich in minerals like magnesium, calcium, iron, phosphorus, potassium and sodium. These minerals maintain bone density, help in speedy recovery of bones and prevents osteoporosis. 
You can have passion fruit with its seeds for more fibre content. Blend it in your smoothie, make a jam or just have it raw.

INGREDIENTS
  • Passion fruit- 4 or 5 nos
  • Sugar- 1/2 cup
  • Water-1 1/2 cup
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Firstly wash the passion fruits and cut them into two halves.
  2. Scoop the pulp and seeds using a spoon into a blender.
  3. Add sugar and water to it.
  4. Blend well.
  5. Now pour the blended mixture to a strainer.
  6. Press the mixture using a spoon and collect the juice in a bowl.
  7. Transfer the juice to serving glasses.
  8. Finally, put the ice cubes to the serving glasses and have it.
